5 Affordable Places to Travel to After Lockdown

Are you eagerly waiting for the lockdown to be over? You are not alone.I’m sure that we have all made plans for after lockdown.

If you’re anything like me, I am excited for the world to open back up to travel. One of my biggest goals for this year was to go and explore the world more. The global pandemic has made this reality a little confusing. Due to the virus, many streams of income have reduced. The possibility of travel seems somewhat bleak.

But, HAVE NO FEAR.

I have found a bunch of places that are not only beautiful but are affordable to visit. These locations are the cheapest during the fall/winter months (September- Dec). Tip: It is always a good rule of thumb to plan a trip 3 months out from the day you plan to arrive.

Here I present: THE CHEAPEST PLACES TO VISIT AFTER QUARANTINE (September – and beyond)

Houston, Texas

Houston is a great place to visit because of Beyoncé, Meg Thee Stallion, and Travis Scott. That’s enough reasoning, right?

This city has pleasant weather. It can go from scorching hot to moderate. Another reason you should check this place out is because of its impressive NASA space center. This location is prime for its food and nightlife. Visiting Houston would be an excellent choice for a girl’s trip. Similar to NYC, the views in Houston are legendary.

One place to visit: Beyoncé’s childhood home LOL .. jk (maybe). Another good place to visit is the Houston Space Center

Average Flight Cost (roundtrip from NYC): $175

Average Cost of Hotels/Airbnb: $80 a night

Average Cost of Food per day: $60 a day

San Diego, California

This coastal city is more than beautiful white sand beaches and palm trees. This spot in SoCal is considered the “Birthplace of California.” The history of this region includes being the first Spanish settlement in the state of California in 1769. In addition to its culture, San Diego has a lit party scene, beautiful views, and delicious foods. Unlike other popular cities in California, activities in San Diego are AFFORDABLE and fun.

One place to visit: Balboa Park

Average Flight Cost (roundtrip from NYC): $199

Average cost of Hotel/Living Accommodations: $100 a night

Average Cost of Food per day: $40 a day

Glacier National Park

So you’re adventurous. This is the one for you! You like hiking and a more rural, rustic scene. Glacier National Park is particularly beautiful and affordable between September- November because of the fall foliage. The park offers a tranquil vibe and will have you leaving feeling closer to nature and the earth around you. Yes, it is partially in the wild, but do not be afraid of the animals nearby. Most are harmless and keep far away from us. Glacier National Park would be a fun visit for the birthday of our earthy friends; you know which one I’m talking about.

One place to visit: Whitefish, Montana (beautiful and scenic town nearby)

Average Flight Cost (roundtrip from NYC): $132

Average cost of Hotel/Living Accommodations: $190 night. I do recommend Airbnb for this trip because it is cheaper and the homes are spacious. It would put you a few miles outside the National Park

Average Cost of Food per day: $32

San Jose, Costa Rica

Now Costa Rica? Hmm. Costa Rica is the EPI-CENTER for National Parks in Central America. This rainforest retreat is considered one of the happiest places in the world. Many people live by the motto “Pura Vida,” which translates to “good life” or “good day.” Ever saw a hummingbird in person? Here, you will be placed in the middle of the Hummingbird capital of the world. The food here is delicious, and the overall atmosphere is friendly and inviting.

One place to visit: Teatro Nacional Costa Rica (their largest national theater filled with beautiful artifacts and history; one of the oldest buildings in Costa Rica)

Average Flight Cost (roundtrip from NYC): $340

Average cost of Hotel/Living Accommodations: $200/night

Average Cost of Food per day: $60

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is also a cool place for affordable and fun travel. This moderately weathered city brings the glory of a contemporary art scene. It also holds an extensive canal system straight in the middle of the town, showcasing its eco-friendly deposition. Think of Amsterdam as being a fun and green city. Similar to NYC, this town offers a lot of free things to do.

One place to visit: Van Gogh Museum

Average Flight Cost (roundtrip from NYC): $350

Average cost of Hotel/Living Accommodations: $160/night

Average Cost of Food per day: $80

Where do you want to visit as soon as we’re out of lockdown?

Do not let the lockdown ruin the hope of traveling. There is still hope for us to be out living our best life. Take a chance and take the trip of your dreams!
